My name is Madison Hall. Last year I decided I wanted to do SIP, very last minute might I add. I wasn’t too confident in my abilities and I was kind of nervous, but I decided I couldn’t lose anything from pitching an idea! I decided to do it because I felt if I did it I could showcase all of my interests. Also, it was a test to myself to jump outside my comfort zone.
For my SIP project I will be creating a magazine on communities in Louisville that have been effected by urban renewal. For example, communities like Little Africa and Old Walnut Street. These were both places in Louisville that once were beautiful communities that mostly housed Black Americans.
Due to urban renewal, the communities were built over with more modern, and what were thought to be, more useful businesses. In this magazine, I will fully encompass the livelihood of these communities and what damage it did to the people to be removed from their communities.
